My Bio
I'm an archaeologist and an illustrator. In the past I have done work for science fiction 'zines, apas, and RPGs, in addition to wldlife art. Currently I am involved in experimental archaeology, replicating ancient tools and using them to assess their performance and durability. I also enjoy continuing to draw and paint, and experiment with various modern crafts.

Favourite Visual Artist
Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky
Favourite Movies
Bladerunner, Casablanca, Airplane!
Favourite TV Shows
I don't have much time for TV, so I usually whatever anyone else is watching
Favourite Bands / Musical Artists
Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, although I tend to listen mostly to classical music
Tools of the Trade
Bronze casting tools (I wrote and entire PhD thesis about hammers...), brushes, watercolours, pens and inks, pencils, whatever I can get my hands on.
Other Interests
Bronze Age archaeology, Dodos. Dodos are kind of an obsession of mine.
This is a cartoon I started many years ago and have just now got around to finishing. It began with a doodle of the idol and realised that it would be great for a story about it for Ken Fletcher's Spontoon Island website. I drew the first two pages and it languished for a year or so until I was on Skype and brainstormed with Ken about where the story could go.The result is a silly 9 page mini comic. The first two pages are up and new pages will be put up every few days until it's all there. For the ongoing comic, click on the link here:http://spontoon.rootoon.com/SPwPFcv.html

It was remarkable how quickly I left behind all social media, phone access, and pretty much all internet contact. The nearest wifi coffeeshop was a kilometer walk from where I was. Really, it was great and I'm slowly taking up the burden of modern life again. I had a great time casting bronze with other metalworkers. While I normally stick to the Bronze Age, there were others doing Viking, Medieval, Roman, and just pure experimental work. I learned a lot and showed others some of the tricks I'd learned. It was all about sharing information. While I was there I did get to make some things. I made myself a couple of sweet new jewellery hammer

In a few weeks I'll be at the Bronze Casting Festival at the Bronzezeithof in Uelsen, Germany. It’s a festival for bronze casters to meet, exchange knowledge, work together on casting metal, experimenting, discussing methods, and having a good time together. I plan to be using new (to me) medieval mould recipes and casting more replica tools and jewellery. The site is a Bronze Age village, and I will have an exciting time living the Bronze Age life for a couple weeks. No internet! I'll have a lot of time to write and sketch, so as an exclusive offer, I'll be sending copies of my journal to my Patreon supporters. Interested in Bronze Ag
